On 17 September 2025, NICPR, under the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Govt of India, conducted an awareness session at Sri Aurobindo Ashram, New Delhi, focusing on cervical cancer and breast self-examination. About 30 girls and women attended the program.

Dr. Smita Asthana, Scientist, delivered an informative talk supported by a PowerPoint presentation and posters, explaining the signs and symptoms of cervical cancer and the importance of regular screening. Ms. Rajshri, Senior Technical Officer, provided a hands-on demonstration of breast self-examination using a silicone breast model.

Participants actively engaged with questions such as “How does oral cancer spread?” and “Is cancer infectious?” During the feedback round, attendees correctly answered queries on the prevalence of breast and cervical cancers in India, the virus responsible for cervical cancer, and the recommended age for preventive vaccination.

The session was well received and helped enhance awareness and practical understanding of cancer prevention among the participants.
