Dr. Kiran Bedi in Delhi Ashram

Dr. Kiran Bedi, known for her many roles as a social activist, former tennis player, and the first woman IPS officer was born on June 9, 1949, in Amritsar, Punjab. She introduced several reforms at Tihar Jail, which won her the Ramon Magsaysay Award in 1994. In 2003, Bedi became the first Indian and first woman to be appointed head of the United Nations Police and Police Advisor in the United Nations Department of Peace Operations.

Dr. Kiran Bedi served as the Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry from 29-5-2016 to 16-2-2021.

Dr. Kiran Bedi visited the Delhi Ashram on 20-5-2025 and interacted with the Ashram youth and encouraged them to pursue their passions and to use their skills to make a positive impact on the world.
